Preparations are in full swing this week for the 16th annual Watsonville Strawberry Festival at Monterey Bay, and organizers think the competing festival that popped up last summer will not resurface this year.
Last year, the city and a promoter it hired for the festival were unable to agree on a location. The city fired the promoter, who decided to move forward with a similar festival at the county fairgrounds the same August weekend.
With no official word of a second festival this year, plans to expand the downtown festival are a go. This year's festival, set for July 31 and Aug. 1, will see the return of a children's carnival, introduce a classic car show, showcase arts and crafts, bring in live entertainment and, of course, offer booths and booths of strawberry creations.
