Hundreds of North monterey County High School students watched as a judge sentenced a woman to four months in county jail.
"It's a powerful message for juniors and seniors who are driving and if they are tempted with alcohol, what the penalties can be," said Mark Dover, Activities Director.
Students said the court room setting and punishment "amazed" them.
Watching the convicted drunk driver led away in handcuffs and realizing the consequences of drinking and driving overwhelmed them.
"I think it would be sad for her to be not only in jail but what if she was dead from wreck less driving and being under the influence," said a student.
The woman, whose name wasn't released, is a third time DUI offender and volunteered to be sentenced in front of the students.
